In 2003, a great forest fire swept the valley of the Rocky River in Jasper National Park. Trees exploded. Flames leapt in the darkness. The lake crackled with light. This body of work, still in progress, reflects an integration of knowledge and feeling toward an event which spoke to me as scientist and artist.
In the years that followed fireweed bloomed, elk moved in and wolves thrived. I thank the fire for its rejuvenation of the valley and hold dear my solitary, nocturnal visits with it.
